Privacy Policy

Overview

OpenAgData is a community-driven platform for discovering agricultural research. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about data practices. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

• Account information: When you sign in, we collect your email address and basic profile information provided by your authentication provider (e.g., Google, GitHub).
• Email subscriptions: If you subscribe to research alerts, we store your email address and subscription preferences (state, topic, or hub).
• Billing: Stripe processes your payment and billing details. OpenAgData stores customer and subscription identifiers, billing email, plan status, price, trial dates, billing periods and cancellation state. We do not store full payment-card numbers or security codes.
• Saved collections: We store your collection names and atlas filters against your account. Sharing a collection view copies its public search filters, including any selected ZIP or place, without sharing your private name or account.
• Workflow measurement: We record completed searches, source opens, exports, saved-view actions, verified trial starts and meeting enquiries. These event records contain action types, broad result-count bands and random browser-tab session identifiers. They do not contain raw search text, ZIP codes, coordinates, collection names, account identifiers or IP addresses. Trial and enquiry events are deduplicated by their operational record identifiers and are not linked to browser sessions. Browser workflow events respect Do Not Track.
• Research submissions: Papers you submit to the platform, including metadata such as title, authors, location, and topics.
• Usage analytics: We use Vercel Analytics and Google Analytics to understand page views, browser type, general region and navigation. Google Analytics may use first-party cookies and process device and connection information. We do not intentionally send account email addresses or collection names to these analytics services.
• Page engagement: On selected acquisition pages, including the funding board and research hubs, OpenAgData creates random first-party visitor and session identifiers so we can distinguish repeat visits from many different visitors. These identifiers are not built from device characteristics and are not tied to your account.
• Project and dataset enquiries: If you submit an enquiry, we store the information you provide together with the page where you submitted it, the referring website's host when available, and campaign tags from the link that brought you to OpenAgData.

• To authenticate your identity when you sign in
• To understand how the platform is used and identify improvements

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with the following service providers who help us operate the platform:

• Supabase: Database hosting and authentication
• Vercel: Application hosting and analytics
• Google Analytics: Website usage measurement (Google privacy policy)
• Stripe: Payment processing, subscriptions and billing portal (Stripe privacy policy)
• Resend: Email delivery for subscription alerts

Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication sessions. Google Analytics may set first-party analytics cookies. Stripe uses cookies and similar technology on its payment and billing surfaces. Browser controls can block or remove cookies; doing so may affect sign-in or payment functionality. We do not use advertising cookies to deliver targeted advertisements.

Browser Storage

We use first-party browser storage for random page visitor and session identifiers and to carry campaign tags across pages during a visit. Campaign context is kept for the browser session and is attached to an enquiry only when you choose to submit one. Clearing your browser storage removes these identifiers from your device.

Your Rights

• You can unsubscribe from email alerts at any time using the link in any alert email.
• You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
• You can access and export your submitted research data.

Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Subscription preferences are retained until you unsubscribe. Published research submissions remain on the platform as part of the public knowledge base. Saved collections remain until you remove them or your account is deleted. First-party workflow events and funding-page visit records are removed after 90 days by a daily retention job. Billing records are retained for subscription administration, accounting and resolving billing enquiries; Stripe manages the payment records it holds under its own policy.
