OpenAgData is a community-driven platform for discovering agricultural research. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about data practices. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

• Account information: When you sign in, we collect your email address and basic profile information provided by your authentication provider (e.g., Google, GitHub).
• Email subscriptions: If you subscribe to research alerts, we store your email address and subscription preferences (state, topic, or hub).
• Research submissions: Papers you submit to the platform, including metadata such as title, authors, location, and topics.
• Usage analytics: We use Vercel Analytics to collect aggregate usage data such as page views, browser type, and general geographic region.
• Hub engagement: On research-hub pages, OpenAgData creates random first-party visitor and session identifiers so we can distinguish repeat visits from many different visitors. These identifiers are not built from device characteristics and are not tied to your account.
• Project and dataset enquiries: If you submit an enquiry, we store the information you provide together with the page where you submitted it, the referring website's host when available, and campaign tags from the link that brought you to OpenAgData.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and improve the OpenAgData platform
• To send research alert notifications you have subscribed to
• To authenticate your identity when you sign in
• To understand how the platform is used and identify improvements

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with the following service providers who help us operate the platform:

• Supabase: Database hosting and authentication
• Vercel: Application hosting and analytics
• Resend: Email delivery for subscription alerts

Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication sessions. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

Browser Storage

We use first-party browser storage for random hub visitor and session identifiers and to carry campaign tags across pages during a visit. Campaign context is kept for the browser session and is attached to an enquiry only when you choose to submit one. Clearing your browser storage removes these identifiers from your device.

Your Rights

• You can unsubscribe from email alerts at any time using the link in any alert email.
• You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
• You can access and export your submitted research data.

Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Subscription preferences are retained until you unsubscribe. Published research submissions remain on the platform as part of the public knowledge base.
