“Statewide testing of 1,624 symptomatic samples in Nebraska (2023-2025) found wheat curl mite-transmitted viruses widespread not just in wheat but in cereal forage and cover crops: rye (80%), triticale (93%), and barley (72%) were infected with wheat streak mosaic virus and/or Triticum mosaic virus. Virus sequences were nearly identical across hosts, meaning these cereal cover and forage crops act as a green bridge that carries wheat streak mosaic disease into the next wheat crop — plan termination timing and crop choice accordingly.”

“Machine learning models built from agronomic, drone, and environmental data predicted sorghum grain quality traits accurately enough to cut lab testing — crude protein R²=0.90, amylose R²=0.92-0.99, starch R²=0.80, with lysine-from-protein weakest at R²=0.64. Grain composition shifted measurably with year and management (precision N, cover crops, no-till), and leaf temperature and stomatal conductance had strong non-linear links to amylose.”
